Betty was born in Hildesheim. She started her fashion career right after school, when she was interning at the tailor studio in a theatre. She was sure to
become a costume designer, but she began studying at a fashion college to get the perfect know how about tailoring instead. Right after that she made an apprenticeship at Odermark in Goslar. It
was a hard time for her, working in a factory producing prototypes for men’s suits and vests, but she learned a lot about workmanship and the production process.
In 1996 she started studying fashion design at the University of Applied
Sciences in Hannover. Soon, she realized that she preferred to create durable, functional fashion. She proved that at Donna Karan Company in NYC,
where she was interning in the DKNY women’s, accessories and shoe department.
In 2001 she was lucky to start at J.A.S. in Switzerland as designer for active sports and streetwear.
A few years later Betty found a new challenge at Mammut as a designer for the climbing and snow collection. In 2006 she became team leader of the apparel
design team. During the following years she created and supported many products for the Mammut apparel collection. She managed comprehensive design projects and adapted international trends
in the Fashion and Outdoor Industry for a successful collections. She explored markets for commercial awareness, analyzed competitors, sourced information for product overviews and
identified end user requirements. She constructed critical paths for management of priorities and deadlines, from initial research to colour concepts, garment sketches, finalizing designs,
prototype inspection and product launch. While leading the design team and guiding the design process, Betty's products won several awards.
In 2012 it was time for Betty to forge a new path; and DESIGNbyBETTY was born.
Since then she is working on collections and projects for international customers.
